The Section on Chinese Public Administration (SCPA) was established on April 1, 2006 with the approval of ASPA’s National Council. It consists of scholars and professionals from the U.S., China, and other countries. It is the largest professional and scholarly organization in the field of Chinese public administration and public affairs in the U.S. As the newest section of the American Society for Public Administration, SCPA capitalizes on the rapidly increasing exchanges between China and the United States. SCPA closely collaborates with the Chinese Public Administration Society and facilitates cooperation with the schools of public affairs and administration in China and their counterparts in the U.S. SCPA endeavors to effectively contribute to strengthened and expanded exchanges between China, and the U.S. and other countries in the field of public affairs and administration.
The mission of SCPA is to help members:
- Meaningfully engage with the public administration community in China;
- Personally witness and effectively contribute to the reforms of a socialist society in its transition toward a market economy;
- Find opportunities for exchanges with almost 100 MPA programs in China;
- Explore platforms for interacting with academia, professionals, and public organizations in China;
- Draw on the knowledge, skills, and experiences of its members in solving emerging cutting-edge issues common to China, the United States and other countries.?
What ASPA members have done over the past few years:
- Initiated and organized three Sino-US International Conferences on Public Administration in Beijing;
- Founded the journal, Chinese Public Administration Review;
- Facilitated academic exchanges and policy dialogues between ASPA and the Chinese Public Administration Society.
